These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Motifs (the “Service”), a chess tactics learning platform available at motifs.gg, operated by CHANNELIST LLC (“we”, “us”, or “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Motif is a structured chess tactics curriculum that provides tactic detection tools, interactive puzzles, spaced repetition training, and game analysis. The Service is offered in three tiers: Free, Pro, and Coach. Features available under each tier are described on the Pricing page and are subject to change with notice.
Certain features require you to create an account. You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration and to keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support[at]motifs.gg if you believe your account has been compromised.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
Paid subscriptions (Pro, Coach) are billed on a monthly recurring basis through our payment processor, Stripe. By subscribing you authorise us to charge your payment method on each billing date. All prices are in USD and exclusive of applicable taxes, which you are responsible for paying.
We reserve the right to change subscription pricing. We will provide at least 30 days’ notice of any price increase, and the new price will take effect on your next billing cycle after that notice.
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation stops future charges; you retain access to paid features until the end of the current billing period. We do not provide prorated refunds for unused days in a billing period.
If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us within 30 days of the charge at support[at]motifs.gg and we will investigate.
You agree not to use the Service in any way that:
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without prior notice depending on the severity of the violation.
The Service, including its design, software, curriculum content, and detection engine, is owned by CHANNELIST LLC and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial chess training.
Puzzle positions sourced from the Lichess open puzzle database are made available under the Creative Commons CC0 licence. Your game PGN data that you upload remains yours. By uploading PGN data you grant us a limited licence to process it for the purpose of delivering the Service.
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that tactic detection results will be complete or accurate. Chess is a complex game and our detection engine may miss or misclassify positions.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CHANNELIST LLC and its officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our aggregate liability for any claim arising under these Terms shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) $50 USD.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our sole discretion. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, limitation of liability, and governing law) will survive termination.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall first be submitted to good-faith negotiation. If unresolved, disputes shall be settled by binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes we will notify you via the email address on your account or by posting a prominent notice in the Service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
