CHANNELIST LLC (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates Motifs at motifs.gg (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy.
Account information. When you register, we collect your email address and any profile details you provide. Authentication is handled by Clerk; we receive only the data Clerk provides to us.
Usage data. We record which puzzles you attempt, your solve times, hints used, and SRS progress. This data powers the spaced-repetition queue and your personal progress dashboard.
Game PGN data. If you use the Tactic Finder or game-import features, we receive PGN data you submit or authorise us to fetch from third-party chess platforms (Lichess, Chess.com). PGN analysis results are stored for 30 days for authenticated users, or 30 days for anonymous sessions. You can delete your analyses at any time in account settings.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never store full card numbers; we retain only the Stripe customer ID and subscription status needed to manage your plan.
Log and device data. Our servers automatically collect IP addresses, browser type, referring URLs, and request timestamps for security and rate-limiting purposes. This data is retained for up to 90 days.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to train AI models for third parties.
We share information with service providers only to the extent necessary to operate the Service:

Each provider is contractually required to handle your data securely and only as directed by us.
We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls limited to authorised personnel, and regular security reviews. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but we take our obligations seriously.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email us at support[at]motifs.gg. We will respond within 30 days.
You may delete your account at any time in account settings. Account deletion removes your profile and puzzle history; payment records are retained as required by law.
We use browser local storage to remember your theme preference (light / dark). Our authentication provider (Clerk) uses cookies to maintain your session. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support[at]motifs.gg and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the email address on your account or by posting a notice in the Service at least 14 days before changes take effect. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the current version.
